Meet Isa
Isamarys Medina Rivera, your doula.
I was born and raised in Puerto Rico and now serve families across Hampton Roads, Virginia. The daughter of a geriatric nurse and a carpenter, I grew up around caregiving and craftsmanship. Supporting mothers and families, especially Spanish speaking parents who may feel vulnerable because of language and the swirl of emotions around birth, has always been my calling.
I trained as a Birth and Postpartum Doula with DONA International, became a Certified Lactation Counselor, and offer placenta encapsulation and keepsakes. As a Hispanic military spouse, I understand the unique challenges of distance and changing support networks.
My approach is evidence based, culturally sensitive and family centered, so you feel informed, confident and cared for in pregnancy, birth and the fourth trimester.
- Birth & Postpartum Doula, DONA International trained
- Certified Lactation Counselor (CLC)

Family stories
Words from the families Isa has walked beside.
The best doula you could ever ask for. My husband and I went through a very long and difficult 38 hour induction, and Isa never left our side. She brought food, captured beautiful moments, helped us make important decisions, and kept me grounded through all the pain. If you are wondering whether you need a doula, this is your sign.
Erika Ruiz Millan
Birth doula client
Isa was my birth doula for my first baby and I could not recommend her enough. I had quite an extended labor and she stuck through all of it. She was extremely supportive, respectful and knowledgeable. I wish every woman delivering a baby could have a doula as amazing as Isa.
Beata Pedlowska
First baby, birth support
She was loud where I was quiet, supportive and resilient when I needed a boost, and a welcome presence that was always there. Between the coaching of different labor positions, the hands on pressure and the calm words to my support system, my labor was completely stress free.
Meghan Gordon
Water birth
Isa was a key part in making my birthing experience a pleasant one. She was my advocate when I did not feel listened to. She knew exactly what I needed. She partnered with the doctors and nurses caring for me and made sure my wishes were honored. She is like family.
Rhonda I. McClain
Birth doula client
Isa has a great instinct for knowing exactly what support you need in each moment. She is so knowledgeable and has a comforting presence. She checked on our family after my birth and even helped with my breastfeeding journey. I plan to hire her again for all my future babies.
Eden Rios
Birth and postpartum
Isa was warm and kind, and felt more like talking with a friend from the beginning. She even met with me postpartum to make sure baby and I were adjusting well. I noticed the difference in my energy and mood on the days I forgot my capsules. She is a gem.
Abigail Burke
Placenta encapsulation
My amazing birth experience would not be possible without my incredible team of my doctor, nurses and especially my doula. Doula Amarys has a true talent. Would not have made it without her. If you are searching for a doula, she is the person you need.

A birth doula provides continuous emotional and physical support before, during and shortly after birth. That includes prenatal preparation, comfort measures and positioning in labor, help understanding your options, and support for your partner so they can be present with you.
Yes. All services are offered in English and Spanish. Isa is bilingual and understands how vulnerable birth can feel when language is a barrier, so you will always be able to ask questions and be understood.
Families throughout Hampton Roads, Virginia, including hospital, birth center and home birth settings. Reach out if you are just outside the area and we will see what is possible.
Many families reach out in the second trimester, but it is never too early or too late to ask. Postpartum and lactation support can also be arranged after your baby has arrived.
Never. A doula works alongside your partner and your medical team. Isa helps your partner feel confident in how to support you and communicates respectfully with your nurses and provider so you feel heard.
Your placenta is collected after birth, prepared with careful handling standards, and returned to you as capsules along with optional keepsakes. Isa will walk you through storage, transport and timing during your consultation.
